This month marks 9 months since the Bastion began, and we have had a lot of things happen in just that short amount of time! We are hitting just about the halfway mark with planned plots, and with all of those that have joined us just recently as well as some major developments in the past few days, the modlings have seen fit to bestow upon you all the glory that is recapping!
So join us now as we bring everyone up to date on the events that have taken place at the end of the world!
To begin... well, obviously the world ended. The Calamity occurred in Caelondia. But it wasn't just Caelondia that was destroyed - several other worlds were affected as well. Gone in a blink, with nothing but the barest traces left behind and dragged to this one central epicenter of the event.
This was something that the surviving Caelondians and Ura weren't aware of, though, and it wasn't until about 35 days after the event took place in Caelondia that people from other worlds began to trickle in to the Bastion. Before their arrival, survivors had been looking for things called Cores - basically pieces of the Bastion that would power it and allow it to have more facilities that would easily accommodate the growing number of survivors. New arrivals were recruited to help with this task after the first three cores were located.
The game proper started with the fourth core being located on the 61st day, which in turn created the farm in the Bastion.
On the 77th day, another core was located on the Skyway. Along with it, some important documents were located at a farm house that was left on the Skyway. The core that was located created the ranch, next to the farm.
On the 100th day, the sixth core was located. It opened up a fully functional hospital, including a ward specifically made to treat more serious wounds without doctor intervention. The PCs were also able to secure a barge that could be used to bring supplies to the Bastion from the Skyway.
On the 117th day, the seventh core was located and, after some difficulty, brought back to the Bastion. Thankfully no lives were lost in it's retrieval, but there were several close calls. This core brought electricity and modern appliances to the Bastion.
On the 121st day, an anomaly occurred. Without warning a handful of survivors were dropped in to a scrap yard on the Skyway. These weren't just any survivors - they were people from an experimental world known as Vatheon that had pulled people from other worlds in order to trap them under a bubble in the ocean and keep them there indefinitely. The experiment had been ended, though, and according to these survivors by way of battle they secured their freedom and had been on their way home when something pulled their transports in to the Bastion.
On the 129th day, with enough power in the Bastion to send people even further than before, NPC Nathaniel took a small group to the Mancer's Observatory. After a slew if troubles, the team was able to return with Venn's Journal, as well as some scattered information regarding the Calamity and what part the Caels and Uras had in it.
But it hasn't been all doom and gloom! Naturally there have been things happening in the in between of all these days, and not all of them related to the sorry state of the end of the world. There have been good days and bad days, losses and gains, and everything else that comes with a bunch of strangers being forced to live together on a floating rock in the sky.
In fact, the Bastion itself was kind enough to let everyone party their asses off for five days. From the 143rd day to the 147th day, a massive festival was held within the Bastion. There was presents, drinks, music, games, everything you could possibly imagine.
Sadly the joy was not to last. Zulf, Zia and the Kid - all people with a fairly extensive knowledge of the Calamity - arrived just before the festival. It was through talks with other PCs that Zulf came to learn that Nathaniel was in possession of Venn's journal. Originally he had discussed with Colin Starfury the possibility of retrieving it, but after bringing up the same with Rin Okumura she instead offered to go to Nathaniel as she had known him longer than Colin had.
The end result was not pretty. An argument ensued once Nathaniel learned who Zulf was. The atmosphere in the Bastion turned tense, and several PCs and NPCs sought to understand what was happening. Questions were asked, accusations thrown, words both hostile and gentle sent back and forth between many parties until...
The Kid decided it was time to come clean about what had he knew regarding the Calamity, including the fact that the Mancers of Caelondia not only knew what they were doing, but had been building the weapon responsible for the deaths of so many deliberately.
What does this mean for the future of the Bastion?
Well, only time can tell that one. It still remains one of the only truly safe harbors in the destruction wreaked by the Caelondians, and cores still remain to be found. But the Bastion was built by the same people who caused the destruction in the first place, and no one seems 100% certain as to what the full and final purpose of the place will be once all cores have been located...
And that's the story so far! Relevant log links have been included, but of course questions and clarifiations are welcome within this post.
Here's to our first nine months! Let's make the next nine just as awesome!
